How much does a library card cost?
If you live within city limits you are a city resident and there is no charge. If you do not live within city limits, you are considered a non-resident, and there is a $50.00 charge per household per year.
The reason for this is that city residents effectively already pay through their card through their taxes in Library Tax. If you are unsure if you are a resident or non-resident, please check your tax information to see if you pay Taylorville Library Tax, if you do, you qualify as a resident.
What do I need to bring with me to sign up for a library card?
We will need to see two Proof of Address. Good examples of Proof of Address, as long as they have your current address on them: your driver's license, your state ID, your checkbook. A water bill, or other bill. A piece of mail that has been postmarked sent to you at your address. Any other document or ID issued by an organization that has your name and current address on it.
We will also need the name, phone number and address of a reference. This reference cannot live at your residence, but they do not have to be family, or live in town.
I've lost my library card. What now?
We would be happy to issue you a new card, but there will be a $3.00 fee to replace it.
I used to have a library card, but it was years ago.
Come on in, we'll check to see if you are still in the system. If you are, we'll reissue you a card for $3.00. If you are not, we'll register you as a new patron.
How much can I check out at a time?
You may only check out two DVDs or CDs at a time. You are only limited in how many audiobooks, magazines and books you can check out by your own judgement.
Where can I get information on getting books to read in Braille?
There is a link to the Illinois State Library Talking Book and Braille Service under the Local Links section of their website. It is the very first link on the page. A phone number to their Outreach Center for reader advisory is also available there.

How much does printing, copying or scanning cost?
They all cost 20 cents per page. This is to help recoup the cost of ink and paper.

We can print in color, but can copy only in black and white.
If the patron prints a page and the page does not come out as the patron wishes, that page still must be paid for by the patron. If you are being assisted by one of our librarians, you will not be charged for any mistake pages. If you are in doubt, please ask one of our librarians to assist you, we would be happy to as time allows.

Most computers have Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Word on them. Those that do not are marked.
Two computers have Microsoft Publisher.
